It is precisely the short-wave infrared range that is of particular interest for IR applications such as image processing, as it can be used optimally for documentation in many application contexts: from research and scientific applications, for example in the fields of microscopy, biology and medicine, to remote images from the air (airborne laser scanning) such as for capturing topographical details (agriculture, forestry, geosciences, archaeology), in quality control in the food sector (agricultural and food industry), baggage control at the airport or material qualification in recycling systems. IR cameras are also used to analyse the energy optimisation of buildings (building thermography), in architecture and construction as well as in urban development.
